Cool Stuff

Hasbro — yes, like the kids products has this seriously cool/silly portable DVD player/projector that will cast a 60inch image on any wall — weighs just 5 pounds. The resolution is only 557 x 234 which is about standard TV resolution, but with the portability, who cares.

So, it’s available now from like Target or Amazon, or direct from Hasbro — the $300 price is already dropping to the mid-$200s. Read the reviews on Amazon — and remember, it’s a toy from Hasbro so it will be durable, but I wouldn’t make it my primary device.

Just in time for holiday shopping, new merchandise has arrived. Towel sets, bathrobes, polo shirts… and more.

One major caveat — the price. The Amadana DVD Player is like $1200-1400 dollars. Stunningly beautiful, covered in bamboo laminate, stunningly expensive.

A little off-topic, but we always love a good deal here at Shirts of Bamboo.

In a decision viewed as a boost for wireless networks even beyond airports, federal regulators on Wednesday ruled that the Massachusetts Port Authority cannot block a Wi-Fi access point in the Continental Airlines lounge at Boston’s Logan International Airport.

So, all you have to do is stand outside the President’s Club (Continental’s Airline Club). And if they have free wi-fi in Boston, check it out in other airports around the country. Alaska Airlines has free wi-fi in their Board Room location in Seattle.

So, it isn’t clothing related, but a bunch of us at Shirts of Bamboo are geeks — so, check out this beta for WiFi, plus storage, on an SD card. Would be nice to use my phone on the wi-fi network at my house if they can figure that out.

As small as reed fencing, or up to two inches, Bamboo Fencing or Cali Bamboo, these two on-line place will ship it to you. We have some of the one inch product (though we got our locally) that we’ve lined for a portable dressing room so you can try on those sleep slips at the St. Petersburg Saturday Market.

Saw a note about this in Popluar Mechanics and it sounded cool. New Hi-Gain Antenna arrived and is installed. Initial tests are AMAZING. Normally, my laptop (Averatec 3700 Series) gets one bar in the main room at my place. The wireless sending unit is in the other room, which is beyond a 6″ thick concrete wall. Plugged in the HField antenna after running the software, and unpointed (not aligned with the unit) it was getting two bars, and after I pointed it toward the signal, getting four bars (out of five). That’s a home run for me. As good as the digital cell signal booster I have in Bob the Bus. Something like$109 unless you are a student with an .edu address, then it’s $89. Great thing is that since it’s USB you could use it for your desktop! I’ll have more test results tomorrow after I run tests in the city apartment where we use random neighbors connections.

Got some other great ideas

Now here’s an idea (EPA approved), drain the oil from your car and put it in your air conitioner — though it only make sense for auto repair shops, fast food restaurants, anyone with a HUGE amount of waste oil to get rid of. So, check it out: EconoHeat (yes, they do heating as well).
