Cool Stuff

In a little more than a week, our Marketing Manager, Mark Stephen Souder takes to the waters of the Grand Canyon to do some real world testing on Shirts of Bamboo products. Here is a shot of bags packed and ready to go.

Mark will be testing our socks and t-shirts to see how they do in “stink-tests” and washing in the river (i.e. beating them against rocks).

Stay tuned for updates.

Bamboo cars? Well, not quite. Just interior trim on the new Mitsubishi….

Here is the relevant clip from the article…

Perhaps the most interesting technological application is to be found in the cabin, where Mitsubishi’s own ‘green plastic’ - a mix of bamboo and plant based resins - has seen extensive use with regards to the cabin trim.

Now here is a cool idea, but a tad expensive for my tastes.

THE SCOUT

Bamboo makes its sink debut

Bamboo has proved its value as a versatile and sustainable material in flooring, kitchen countertops and even towels. Now comes the Moso bamboo sink ($700) from Stone Forest, the Santa Fe, N.M., company best known for hand-chiseled granite vessels for bathrooms and gardens. The new sink comes sealed and waxed, but the bamboo does require regular maintenance to remain watertight and to keep its luster. Dealers include Westside Bath in Los Angeles and Euroconcepts and Design Bath & Hardware in West Hollywood. Stone Forest, (888) 682-2987, www.stoneforest.com (type “Moso” in the search field).

OK — this was forwarded to my by a buddy in Tucson…. grow your own luffa. Who woulda’ thought.

For the third autumn in a row I am pleased to be harvesting my shower sponge for next year. Now I know that must sound like a strange statement but it’s true. Many people are surprised when they find out I grow my own Luffa sponges. “Don’t those come from the sea?”, is the standard question to which I respond that the Luffa is a vegetable you can grow in your very own garden.
