Cardboard coffins, shell-shaped urns and fireworks that can be packed with people’s ashes were met by smiles at the Natural Death Center’s Green Funeral Exhibition […]

Carolina Rover Owners Club Thank You!
I wanted to thank you for great gifts you gave to our club for our annual event, Uwharrie Safari 2008. They were quite a big hit with the crowd. We were able to raise over $500 from the raffle which we are giving to the National MS Society. Without your participation, that would not have […]

Thank you all so much for the prompt service!
I placed my order by phone, and the lady was so nice. The shirts are fantastic and perform as advertised. As the temperature changed here in St. Augustine yesterday from 60 to 88 degrees, I was comfortable regardless of the change. Ordinarily I would have had to throw on something sleeveless by afternoon. I will […]

Blister Pack Be Gone.
Method — the folks with the environmentally friendly line of cleaning materials (my housekeeper used their products before the economy took his job) have done away with those awful plastic blister packs that are murderous to get into, and non-recyclable.

Running the Numbers An American Self-Portrait.
This series looks at contemporary American culture through the austere lens of statistics. Each image portrays a specific quantity of something: fifteen million sheets of office paper (five minutes of paper use); 106,000 aluminum cans (thirty seconds of can consumption) and so on. My hope is that images representing these quantities might have a different […]

Can Do Bamboo.
Here is an EXCELLENT, but long, article on bamboo in the Mother Earth News.
Though long misconstrued as an exclusively tropical plant, bamboo can actually be grown as a farm crop in much of the United States. Once you learn how to plant, grow and utilize this fast-growing, beautiful and functional backyard resource, you may never […]
